As a graphic designer working for many years with U.K and NZ constancies, Jackie has worked with countless recognisable premium brands and corporates. Along side her design work she has continued to follow her passion for art, with work held in corporate and private collections in England, New Zealand, Australia and Singapore.
‘I paint when I am not designing and design when I am not painting, with experience in each discipline manifesting in the other. My work is influenced by landscapes and the organic marking of time passing, weathered surfaces, patination and the scars of history. Texture, layers, cuts and scratches bear testimony to the works painstaking evolution. The process of applying and scraping away pigment produce marks that cannot be completely erased and they remain as painted traces and textures revealing what lies beneath – recording what has gone before.”
Jackie established PENCIL AND HAMMER in 2013 originally as an outlet for her graphic prints. Her abstract works along with a huge collection of vintage ephemera is the constant inspiration behind the brand. An ever expanding range of high quality art prints is currently complemented by paper goods and tees, with work is going on behind the scenes of the Auckland studio to expand the brand – so watch this space!
