Kirsten Reid – Photographer/Artist
For me, Auckland’s west coast provides the inspiration for capturing the beauty of the environment. In the landscape, its inhabitants, in patterns and textures, in nature’s colours and the ever-changing light.
With a fascination for the omnipresent layer and ‘components making up the whole, I create photomontage, printmaking and mixed media artworks using photographs, paint, ink, fabric and other objects, sometimes tearing, cutting or weaving the paper or canvas to add texture and pattern.
Abstract and impressionist style images also feature in my work, where details are pared down resulting in soft, fluid images, often with an interesting array of colours.
I endeavour to create unique artworks evoking a strong response in the viewer and warranting a closer look.
I am a member of the Kumeu Arts Centre, Kumeu Photography Group and the Waitakere Central Community Arts Council.
