Mac Waymouth 18, Currently studying a Bachelor of Design Innovation in Wellington’s Victoria University.

Having lived in Muriwai my entire life, growing up led to the environment having a large impact on my upbringing and I think this is reflected within my work. As part of my IB Diploma in 2016, I looked at cultures and identities. These untitled works look at the fishing communities of Sri Lanka who have used the same technology for many years, the harshness of the conditions and the willingness and persistence to continue to do so. I was captivated by it initially due to the similarity of environmental atmosphere these communities had with Muriwai, the surf etc, yet how they have developed completely differently.
