Synopsis: ‘NOTES IN THE WOOD’ – a documentary film
A maverick in the world of traditional violin making, Stan Monk, explores a love of music as he refines his craft to find the sweetest notes in the wood. He is a self-taught, true no.8 wire guy. His unique and beautiful instruments are a blend of science and art – imbued with philosophies on life and theroies on music. Stan lives at Muriwai Beach on the northwest coast of New Zealand. In tune with this unique environment – the wind in the trees, the sound of the surf, the bird song – he acknowledges the influence it has had on his work.
This very New Zealand film will appeal to those who have an affinity with music, craft and nature, to those with an understanding and appreciation of how our small personal world can shape our lives, our passions
