Emma Springford-Gough

Using predominantly Indian ink and acrylic and looking at the romanticised nautical history we have here in Aotearoa, I began creating an ongoing series of nostalgic ship portraits over three years ago. This body of work has also extended to Lighthouses and Navy frigates.

Through making these artworks I have enjoyed researching and learning ‘sea’ stories. I have undertaken various commissions reflecting on people’s personal and generational relationships with the ocean.

In 2021, I was interviewed about my art practice by Mandy from Creative Matters. You can listen to this on Creative Matters Podcast, episode 11.
