I weave because it feels right. When I’m creating I’m at my happiest. I studied photography at Unitec, then went on my OE and worked in a photography studio in London. 5 years later my partner, David, and I came home and I started my own photography business. After becoming a mother I decided to stay at home with the kids. I dabbled in different genres, as I always had the need to create, and also studied te reo Māori which connected me to that part of my culture a bit more. From there I started to weave with Harakeke and its fibre muka. I have also taught myself to prepare skins of animals and feathers I find. I wanted to used materials that if the need be, could feed and become part of the earth again.

Using roadkill to create my work is a great sustainable practice that ensures the body won’t go to waste, and it can prevent birds like New Zealand falcon/kārearea being killed on a busy road.
