Adam Stevens works as a commercial film director and has dabbled in photography ever since he was at school. Cutting his teeth on travel photography, he then edged into motion picture where the stills camera became the view finder, referencing and framing each story beat well before the crew gets involved. Looking for new locations and angles and being lead to lesser known spots is a big part of the job description. ‘As a director, it’s impossible not to have a soft spot for the still image. Too take away the complication of motion and time and let a single frame represent a story or scene or mood. I am completely drawn to images that have a narrative element – where there feels like there is a story attached somehow. I love living in Muriwai, it’s an incredible place to look for and experience visual mood and drama.’
